Nendaz information

Nendaz is located on a sunny terrace above the Rhone-river, near Sion (17km) which is the capital of Valais.
In wintertime it has everything a winter sports enthusiast could want, being at the heart of the 4Vallees ski region with its over the 400 km length of pistes.
During the warmer season, it's a popular holiday resort for bikers and hikers.
A modern holiday resort has grown up all around the centre of this delightful old valais village with its traditional timber houses.
Situated between 1300 and 1500m ,it has a panoramic views of the Alps.
Siviez, eight km to the south in the Valley, also belongs to the community.
It's sometimes also called "Super Nendaz" and cableways run here to the top of the Montfort, at 3330m. It is the highest peak of the Four Valleys ski resort.
The village is packed with
cafes, bistros and restaurants. There are also many great places off the main roads, on the side of mountains and up the Valleys, such as those in Planchouet and on the road to Siviez and La Tsoumaz. There is a good, but not "wild and woolly" night life .
Smaller and more controllable then Verbier, it is often easier to meet your fellow skiers. On the other hand it's because of the significant local population of over the 5000 ( Verbier 2200 ) an all year resort where you can always get a croissant, a good meal and beer even out of the season.

here are 4 large and a couple of smaller supermarkets. Migros is the biggest but the others 2 PAM's and COÖP are also well stocked.

The summer in Nendaz provides a huge selection of activities.Well marked walking-routes, mountain-bike trails and road-bike tours are in the direct surrounding of the village. Also a range of watersports nearby: sailing, windsurfing, jet-ski, rafting canoeing and kayaking ( Lake Geneva). There is ofcourse also the possibility of climbing and paragliding.
There are 250 km of sign posted mountain paths which follows the ancient bisses-water channels dug out of the ground. These walks along the bisses are easy with only a small variation in altitude so ideal for families, children and elderly people.

To find out more about Mountain-biking there is a fantastic website :
www.tdmf.ch . The "tour of Mont-Fort" is a mountain bike-tour that links Nendaz, La Tzoumaz and Verbier.
From village the nearest Golf Club is the "Sion Golf Club", it's only a 20 minutes drive:

There is also (open all year round) a natural Hot Spring and Holiday Resort: Saillon wich is located in the heart of the Valais, between Sion and Martigny.
There's an outdoor( 25 degrees) swimming pool and paddling pool with a fantastic view over the Rhône valley. It's open about 2nd June till the 2nd of September.
In the homeland of Federer there are naturely enough tennis-courts. If you want to learn the skills of paragliding, you have to make an appointment with Joël Debons. The paragliding school offers tandem flights, introduction flights or a complete training-course if you get hooked.

The International Alpenhorn Festival is held at the end of July above at Tracouet at an altitude of 2.200m. About 100 players participate and face each other amicably either solo or in a group. The jury, composed of great names in the world of the alphorn and members of the Swiss Federation of Yodellers, judge without bias.
Nendaz, in the heart of the 4Vallees ski area, has 400km of pistes, in altitude ranging from 1350 to 3330 m, served by 100 cable cars and lifts. Nendaz offers a couple of gentle areas well out of harms way and for experts the place is a fantastic paradise. For those in between, get a lift map and choose carefully. If you are skiing/snowboarding far away from your homebase, head for home plenty in time.

The ski pass system is full of variety, allowing skiers to tailor make a pass to suit their ability. You will enjoy a memorable family holiday including children's ski centre, crèche, games library, ice-rink and special low rates forfamily ski-passes. More than 90 km glorious winter hiking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing will warm your heart. If you prefer more action when you are on holiday, you can have it, thanks to a snow park, free-rideparadise, snowtubing area, sports centre and inviting après ski-bars.
During the ski-season there is a free shuttle bus service that goes round the resort all day. There is also a free bus service from Nendaz-station Télécabine to Siviez every 30 minutes (from 08:00 to 18:00).This means you have no need to use the car for the trip.
Finally we like to mention that you don't have to buy bottled water as the water that comes through your tap is from the spring which is the bottled on Aproz (below Nendaz) and sold.
